Social Media Accounts: If you follow me on any of my social media networks, first, thank you! Your support means a great deal to me. Second, I promise not to blast you with an excess of posts or information. Third, each social media site is unique and is a platform you have chosen to subscribe to. You will need to consult each of those outlets for information on how they track your use or collect your information. For more details on the information I collect, please see below.

Cookie Policy: Cookies are delicious, especially gooey chocolate chip ones straight from the oven … but, we’re not talking about those kind of cookies. We’re talking about digital cookies—tiny virtual file folders that hold details about you. Depending on the type of cookie, they can allow you to have faster browsing times on frequently visited sites or even transfer your information from one site to a similar one. I’m sure there is much more that could be said about these little guys, but that is my best understanding in very concise and easy-to-understand language. For more detailed information, please do your own research. Maybe you can help me understand them better!

This website does utilize cookies; however, you may choose whether or not to accept them. I have it set so you can change your choice at a later date as well. If you do not allow cookies, just know that some parts of my site may not work the best for you.

You have more control over cookies than you may realize. On your end for browsing on other sites, you may choose whether your web browser allows cookies or not. You may also be able to find what cookies have been stored on your computer and even delete them. A quick search should answer any questions you have on how to do all that.

What Information I Collect

The Website: While I do use certain plug-ins and services that allow me to track visitors to my site, I only use information that tells me how many visitors I have on each date, which parts of my site they click on, what time of day and where in the world they are clicking from. These details help me know that I’m not just tossing words out into a void where no one actually reads them and they help me see what people read the most. I use this info to help me improve my site content for you.

Receiving information about how you got to my site (from a social media network, a fellow blogger’s link, etc.) helps me know where my posts and interactions are reaching the most people. Where you live helps me understand what countries and regions I’m reaching. The time of day helps me know when my readers spend the most time surfing the web. Also, how much time you spend on my site and which pages and posts you visit lets me know if you like what you’re reading or if I could make it better.

More specifically, Google Analytics allows me access to reports about my users’ age and gender and interests. This helps me prepare marketing campaigns for my books and more. Additional reports tell me how many visitors are new and how many are returning, how long they browse, what type of device they’re using and what web browser they’re using to do it. This is information I can use to make sure I’m optimizing my website for your use. In addition, certain embedded items like the Spotify playlists on my site require access to this information (via Google Analytics, etc.) and utilize cookies. For further information on how they use this information, you may visit their Widget Terms page.

You do have control over what information is collected about you online! Visit Google Analytics’ currently available opt-outs for the web.

I’m always eager to make my site as a whole and my blog, specifically, better for my readers. Let me know any suggestions you have via the email address below or my contact form!

Contact Form: Your name, email address and message entered on my contact form also go directly to my email address. This information is used only to respond to your requests. I will not add you on to any lists without your express consent.

I will keep our correspondence in my email to make sure I fulfill your requests and may update you in the future with any updated information pertaining to your original contact.

Email Newsletter: Thanks to some great programs I am able to send out emails to everyone who chooses to subscribe to my newsletter list. The program I use tracks how my emails get to you and if you are able to open them. I receive information about what time of day you open an email, where on my website you are clicking, what part of our great world you live in and other details like these.

This information allows me to serve you better. I can use it to determine if certain subject lines get through to you better than others. I can see if it would be better to send my emails to you on a different day or time of day as well.

Social Media Accounts: I receive this same type of information for all my social media accounts as well. These analytics aren’t intended to be intrusive or invasive, rather it helps me understand what content you like and the time of day you typically look at it! I’m also able to run experiments to see what types of posts make you want to click on through! That allows me to better tailor my communication with you.

At the end of the day, this website is all about allowing you and I to communicate freely about all things literary—reading, writing and so much more! Anything I can do to make sure you have a great experience—while still protecting my valued readers—is worth my time and attention.

How I Protect Your Information: None of the information explained above will be seen by anyone but Joy E. Rancatore and the third party services I use to track it. If you want more information about what services I use, I am happy to let you know. Before I set up my site, I spent hours researching various options and companies and spoke with many people much wiser than I am to make sure I signed up for and used the best and most reputable companies available.

I will only use your information to improve your experience on my site and to communicate with you as you have requested. I promise never to share, sell or publish your information.

As part of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which went into effect on May 25, 2018, residents of the EU have the right to request all data my site has collected on you. You also have the right to request that I delete that same information. Even if you don’t live in the EU, you are welcome to make these requests to my site. Should you have any questions, please contact me via the email address below or my contact form.

Affiliate Links: I am an affiliate for the Alliance of Independent Authors. Indie Authors wishing to join ALLi may use my link (through my ALLi member badge), and I will receive a small commission at no additional fee to them. I highly recommend the Alliance of Independent Authors and consider them the most important professional organization for independent authors. That is why I am a confident affiliate.

I am also an affiliate for Bookshop.org because they give a percentage of every sale back to independent book sellers. Their website is a fantastic online alternative for all book purchases, especially when a reader doesn’t have a local bookstore. As an affiliate, I earn a small commission for book sales made after clicking one of the links on my website—at no extra cost to book buyers. I also choose to support one of my local indie bookstores through my bookshop page. Thanks for supporting indies!

PLEASE NOTE: I am NO LONGER a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. I’m leaving this information here for now since I know I still have some lingering links that I haven’t had the time to purge from older blog posts.

Terms & Conditions

By using this website, you agree to abide by and submit to my Copyright Notice, Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree to any of these points, you should not use this website.

Any “tips” or “suggestions” Joy E. Rancatore may present in blog posts do not guarantee writing success for you. The Logos & Mythos blog is an area to share what works in my writing process as well as what I have learned on my journey. Just as every story may be told a million different ways, each writer succeeds through a million different writing processes.

Any comments you make on one of my blog posts will be previewed by me before I allow it to appear on my website. I do this not to censor you or keep out negative comments, but to protect my entire Fellowship of Friends, including the younger ones who may read over their parents’ shoulders. I will delete any comments that use profanity or vulgar language of any kind as well as any comments that intentionally badger another reader or any comments that lead to an unnecessary argument. I will also delete any comments that appear to be spam.

Likewise, Joy E. Rancatore is not responsible for any information you may share as your own that you have taken from someone else or for anyone who may copy and post your content as their own. If you are sharing creative writing of your own, I caution you to consider how your use of that content in a comment on my website could affect any future publication you hope to achieve with it.

In addition, when you comment on my site, you will be complying with any WordPress policies for using their commenting forms. Please see their website for further information regarding your privacy and safety in commenting on WordPress sites.

While I encourage parents to share my website and blog with their children, especially if they love to write or read, I urge caution. While I will never knowingly post content on my site that I would not allow my own children to see, what I deem “appropriate” may not match exactly with what you deem “appropriate.” As with anything online, I urge parents to preview my site and blog posts before sharing them with their children. You should also do this before every visit. We live in a world of hackers who have the capabilities to take over websites and alter the content in the blink of an eye. I keep a close eye on my site, but crazy things can happen. I hope you wisely exercise caution for yourself and your children when it comes to browsing the internet.

Any external web links should be previewed as well. The internet changes every moment, and I cannot be responsible for a change in another site’s content.
